go with your gut

Sometimes you gotta have ...

I'm starting a new adventure (more in a later post) with my Mom. Not sure she's 100% into it, but I'm gonna proceed regardless.
Sometimes you just gotta go with your gut feeling on things.
Have a good one!

how 'bout the Pack!

Thanks to R. Wilson & crew, State beat the Tar Holes on Saturday. It was a great game. Although State didn’t have its best season, you kinda forget about the rest of the year as long as we can win that last game.

Here’s a peek at what we ate on Saturday. It was so yummy!!!

oh happy day!

I was on the search last night. You know, the one where you're looking through your old pocketbooks for stuff (tampons) and guess what I found??? $40!!! Yay for me! It was still in the envelope my parents gave me for Christmas 2 years ago. I can't believe I never spent it! That's so not like me ;)

Have a great day!

my first transformation

I bought this greenish chest of drawers at a yard sale about a month ago. It had a price tag on it of $35. When I walked up the owners driveway to see what he had in his garage (because it was raining that day), I noticed a sign on his mailbox that said "name your prise". No, I didn't spell that wrong! That's what he handwrote on a piece of cardboard. I don't think he's from around here. I think he's from another country. I only had $18 dollars with me at the time so I asked him if he would take $15 and he said YES!!! I motioned to my husband to pull the car closer, paid the man, loaded this cutie in my car and was on my way.

I FINALLY got around to working on this thing this past week and had an idea in my head and was hoping it would look as good as I imagined it.

Here's what it looks like now:

I used Glidden "Pebble White" and Ralph Lauren "Tea-Stained". I'm so pleased I think I'll sell it! ha ha

I'm posting this to Met Monday @ Between Naps on the Porch.

Not even a thank you?

While hubby and I were doing some running around last night (returning some stuff, buying some stuff, getting take-out for dinner, etc.), I mentioned we would have just enough time to stop in Goodwill for a sec. He sat in the car while I ran in.

I have withdrawals if I don’t get to go to Goodwill EVERY DAY. Unfortunately it has gotten to me and I’m obsessed. I hit one on my way home from work and I like to go to another one near my house sometime before they close at 9pm.

When I enter through the doors, I always look to see who’s working the registers. I kinda hang my head or look in a different direction because I know they think I’m sick because I come in there EVERY DAY. They’re probably thinking geez doesn’t that lady have anything else to do with her life?

Anyway, I ran in and glimpsed at the racks of clothes on my way back to the furniture section. I looked at some crap stuff that has been there for quite a while and moved on over to the housewares section (I have my routine, don’t you?). I found a small plaque with a knob on it that will be perfect for hanging my daughter’s bulletin board. There wasn’t much else to look at so I proceeded to the check-out line.

I was the last person in line. When it got to be my turn, the cashier (who I’ve seen a million times) was calling over a coworker and asked if she could borrow a dollar from him until she saw him again the next day. I assumed she wanted to buy herself a drink from the soda machine. When he said he only had a 20 dollar bill, she said she would get change when I paid because the cash register drawer would open. Well … I paid for my $2.99 plaque with a debit card because I only had $2 in my wallet. The drawer didn’t open. I guess I felt bad because I pulled out one of my dollar bills and handed it to her. She looked at the other guy and said “Oh, she gave me a dollar.” The coworker said that’s nice of you (to me). I told them I’m in there practically every day (little lie) so I’ll see them again.

ANYWAY … long story short, the cashier NEVER said thank you. I actually said thank you to her when I was leaving … like thank you for ringing up my purchase. I know if I hadn’t loaned her that dollar, it would have been on my mind all night and I know I shouldn’t expect to ever get it back, but I really though I would’ve gotten a dang thank you.

Whatever.

Things I Love

Are there things in your house that just make you smile every time you look at them? Maybe you don't use them much, but when you see them you kinda giggle inside 'cause they're either so cute, or you got a really great deal on them, or they have sentimental value to you. I wanted to share a few things from my house that I could never part with.

I just love these artichoke statue thingies. I got them last fall and although I haven't found the perfect spot for them yet, I don't care. I knew I needed them when I saw them in the store.
This mirror is hanging in my foyer. It's a not the best kind of mirror for checking yourself before you walk out the door, but it fits perfectly in the space.

I'm always drawn to milk glass when I see it at auctions or yard sales. I got this cutie a couple weeks ago. I used it with my July 4th tablescape.

I bought my sister-in-law a set of these adorable measuring spoons for her birthday and before I left the store I asked the saleslady to ring up another set for me! They're just precious. The handles say "Queen of the Kitchen". Too cute!

Have a great day!

Veggie Night

My parents have a great garden this year. When we were visiting with them over the weekend, they loaded us up on squash, okra (or okry as my mom says), cucumbers and tomatoes. We had a veggie plate last night for supper.

I cut up the okra and let it sit in a bowl of beaten eggs for a few minutes. I didn’t have any corn meal but I found a box of Jiffy corn muffin mix in the pantry so I thought why not? I coated the okra in the muffin mix, dumped it into a pan with a little oil and fried it up. It wasn’t the best I’ve ever had, but it was pretty good.

I breaded the squash with flour and fried it too. Fried ... that's how we do it in NC.

Then I cut up some cucumbers and YUM! Supper is served! Not the most exciting, but it filled our bellies and we were happy.

Here’s Bubby … waiting for us to finish. Isn’t he the cutest???

So, what did you have for supper last night?

Did somebody say "Yard Sale"? I'm on my way!

I woke up at 5:30am Saturday morning, took my shower and was ready to go before the sun had a chance to come up. Isn't it funny how you can always get out of bed when you want to do something fun (no matter what time it is), but when that alarm clock goes off for work you wait until the very last second???

I had looked at the newspaper the night before and knew there weren't going to be a lot of sales, but I always find sales on the way to sales. So, I got my hubby up and made sure he had money in his pocket and away we went.

We stumbled across a few good ones. I got these apothecary jars for 50 cents (for both of them ... yeah, I know ;).

Then I got this tall glass vase at the same sale for another 50 cents (pretty good deal, huh?). I threw out all the "stuff" that was in it. It was some kind of potpourri that had definitely lost its scent.

At another sale, I came across this adorable metal wall pocket. It was already painted and chippy. I asked her how much and she said "oh, how about 50 cents?" I don't know where it will go, but I'm sure I'll find a home.

My hubby wanted these two iron birds. Got 'em for $3. We're obsessed with birds, bird feeders and bird baths. Here they are on a railing of our deck. I hope the real birds aren't afraid of them.

Then we went to a moving sale where they wanted $35 for this bench, but we bargained with her for $25. Isn't it cute? It came with this cushion and it has storage inside. LOVE IT!!! It now has a happy home on my deck.

Lastly, we went to an auction on Thursday night and I got this cute wicker chair for $10!!! I threw a piece of fabric I had in my craft closet over the cushion that came with it because it looked awful. I love how the paint is kinda chipped off in spots.
Now, run over to Rhoda to see other treasures from the weekend!
